In the spirit of underkill home network and overkill home network
Internet:
- Verizon FIOS terminating in their optical network terminal. Assume gigabit ethernet for all wired connections hereafter.
Network:
router/firewall: 4 x 2.5Gb ports. Attached to a UPS. Connected to the main switch.
Main switch: 12 port unmanaged fanless GE switch. Powered by the same UPS as the router/firewall.
Den switch: connected to the main switch. 8 ports.
Living room switch: connected to the den switch. Currently a managed, fan-cooled 48 ports, but soon to be changed out for a 12 port fanless.
Wireless access points 1, 2: connected to the main switch.
Wireless access point 3: connected to the den switch.
Wireless access points 4,5: connected to the living room switch.
Servers:
- main server is connected to the main switch, on its own UPS.
- media server is connected to the den switch, on its own UPS.
Wired stations:
- my desktop is connected to the main switch. Own UPS.
- my wife’s desktop, same.
- my wife’s other desktop, connected to the living room switch.
- there is a currently unused ethernet-over-AC connection from the main switch
- music player in the living room
- media-watching tiny desktop in the living room
- In the den:
- a Roku for the TV
- the home theater receiver
- the HDHomeRun TV tuner
Wireless devices:
- 4 laptops
- 3 chromebooks
- 4 tablets
- six phones
